The Monday after we returned from TX, Joachim and I drove with Ben’s parents into the mountains for the house blessing of a parishioner. Alexandra lives on a 2,500 acre ranch and helps care for her parents while her brothers maintain the ranch. This excursion added to my fascination with the generation born into our nation's greatest economic crisis and the connection to the past that they offer. Alexandra's great-great-grandfather homesteaded this ranch in 1892, building this house for his family.
Alexandra is a brilliant woman and a world-traveler who is now a treasure tucked away in these mountains. It was such a privilege to have lunch with them and listen to their family stories. Joachim, on the other hand, discovered a passionate interest in identifying cow poop, he's now an expert.
