The week after we got back from TX was potty training time. I read the book "Toilet-training in Less Than One Day" and called Lauren the next day disappointed he was still not initiating trips to the potty. She laughed and said to stick with it, it usually takes a little longer. Joachim is actually doing very well staying dry day and night, since that day I only put him in diapers once (under extenuating circumstances). Here he asked me to bring his potty out for a poolside sit and then asked me to take a picture (he wanted to see himself wrapped up in the towel on the potty).

Texas trip + Grandy's Birthday
Early July Joachim and I road to Denton, TX with my parents for a Bartel reunion celebrating my Grandfather's 85 birthday (a lot of car time, but surprisingly Joachim faired much better than I did).
Ben flew in for the weekend so our whole family was represented. It was nice to be together, but it was hot-hot-hot and we're glad to be back in Colorado where we can have windows open and fresh air circulating.
It was interesting for me to reflect on how the dynamics of our reunions have evolved over the years from us cousins as happy-go-lucky kids to free partying adults to parents who have to be in bed by 9:00pm in order to get up at 6:30am. At least we're in it together now.

family fun
waiting for the fireworks
We arrived for the fireworks at 9:15, already past Joachim's bedtime. They actually started at 10:00pm! Ben and I were impatiently ready to leave, but for Joachim, waiting was just part of the outing.
