Cookie Monster

I read the adventures of my childless friends' blogs and I feel like my life is so boring and redundant, but hey, this is entertainment to us :) The last one Ben took after her bath.

Roubideaux Canyon

Roubideaux Canyon is a short 25 minutes from our door and I had no idea it was so beautiful. We've been crashing our in-laws camping trips this summer, showing up for the s'more eating and swimming and then going home to sleep in our beds. We do plan to camp with our kids... but this works out much better for now. Joachim and Katya the adventurers.
Roasting marshmallows with spears!
I like this picture of Fr Daniel... he has this same expression in EVERY picture I've ever taken of him. We have a picture from 1976 and he has the very SAME smile! I have one like it of Ben, when I remember which folder it's in I'll post them together.
The last thing before we left Joachim and Katerina were drawing with charcoal, I have just informed him we are leaving.

Cherry Days

In my effort to make it to all the local festivals, I took my parents to Cherry Days in the nearby hippie town of Paonia. This is the town where Mothering Magazine was started and originally published. One of the midwives we interviewed had all of the original publications... very grassroots.

This festival is definitely one we'll make a family tradition, probably replacing the Sweet Corn festival. It's higher in the mountains so it's cooler and the people are exceptionally friendly, the problem has been that it's over the 4th of July which has conflicted with my family reunions.
Paonia from the top of the ferris wheel.
The parade was a blast and the Carnival was so much nicer than when it was in Delta. I talked Joachim into riding the kiddie roller coaster which turned out to be a terrifying experience for him, what do I know? That said, when he rode the bull-dozers, which was his choice, he made a big show of riding with no hands like the girls did on the roller coaster. I didn't realize he'd even noticed , he's so precious.

about ben

For father's day I made some freezer paper stencil shirts for the kids and much to my satisfaction I think Ben got a kick out of them.My dear husband has taken on a new hobby or rather a new hobby has taken on my husband. A while ago he ordered a sourdough starter in the mail and since then he's been feeding the beast. It seems we almost always have a bowl of the stuff spilling over in the corner and it is like a third child needing regular attention.

At first he tried to keep up with the bread baking so as not to waste any of the growing goo, but that proved impossible. I'm not sure exactly how he's managing it now, but he's mastered a pretty good loaf and has made sourdough English muffins, sourdough pita bread, sour dough pizza and sour dough pancakes. Below is his first ever loaf.
